Boys & Girls Club’s mission is to enable all young people, especially those who need them most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens. Providing a world class club experience that assures success is within reach of every young person who enters their doors, with all members on track to graduate high school with a plan for the future, demonstrating good character and citizenship, and living a healthy lifestyle.

Boys & Girls Club was looking to refresh their current furniture selection for their three locations: Costa Mesa, Newport Beach and Irvine. Each location was to have a unique theme: Mid-century, Coastal and Packing House style, respectively. Their desire was for each furniture collection to meet its specialized style requirements and to be durable enough to withstand the wear and tear of the consistently high traffic passing through the facilities.

They expressed their interest in Smith System furniture from an early stage, so Orange County architecture firm LPA brought Tangram in as one of the vendor options for this client.

The scope of this project included solely ancillary furniture for various types of spaces, including Reception Area, Learning Labs, Teen Center, Huddle Rooms and a Kindergarten Lab. The desire was for a comprehensive, yet inspiring furniture collection that was selected specifically to serve the needs of each unique environment. Each location was designed to serve children and teenagers, so it was necessary for the pieces to be capable of withstanding heavy use, while still maintaining a cool kid-friendly look/feel and remaining within budget.

After Tangram presented a range of education products from Smith Systems, Fleetwood, NorvaNivel and Demco, along with furniture from a variety of other vendors, Boys & Girls Club decided on furniture all from Steelcase partnerships, including Turnstone, Blu Dot and Smith System. Together, the curated pieces defined a distinctive style for each location while maintaining long-lasting and contract-grade durability. Each refreshed look breathed new life into the space and cultivated an inspiring, comfortable and caring space for every child and teenager that enters the doors.
